I just heard a child, so this might be short-lived.
I didn’t write yesterday. I would like to write today though. I would like to carry on with the project. Thinking of it as a project is soothing to me. Just another project. Keep going like with anything. Try to keep the momentum going on it. Sometimes you lose momentum and that’s okay… it’s still a worthy project. I lost momentum on the book shelves in my office, but I still really really want them and believe they’re going to change everything.
The word count is important. 2000 words is roughly 3 percent of the book. That is a visible chunk to be able to sit down and write at one sitting. I think this fact energizes me, even though the word count itself is daunting at times, like right now. But it’s like how I get seized with a building or craft project…it is not exciting to me to knit three rows a day on a scarf and finish it over a year. It is exciting to complete it in one big whoosh of activity and then sit back and look at what I accomplished. I think this book can be like that. If I keep going with this month, I will be able to look back on it with wonder and it will be super helpful to me to know what it is like to be that immersed in writing something long. Of course, it still won’t be like I wrote the book in a month, I’ve been working on it on and off for years. But this push has value. It is a lesson and an investment, and it is worth it.
On that note…
